Jerome W. Matthews is a native of the New Orleans area. After high school, Mr. Matthews joined the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably as a Corporal from 2001-2006, which included a tour in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Mr. Matthews is a 2008 graduate of Tulane University and a 2011 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. During law school, he was a judicial extern to Judge John T. Noonan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Matthews worked as a litigation associate at Liskow and Lewis in the firm’s New Orleans office.
Mr. Matthews has had a long interest in criminal law and a passion for defending the rights of others, stemming from his time in Afghanistan. With that interest he opened his own criminal law practice as a solo practitioner. He attributes the Marine Corps with providing him the key skills that he now applies to his law practice. “The Marines taught me attention to detail, where one mistake could affect your life or the lives of your fellow Marines…” Matthews said.
In addition to practicing law, Mr. Matthews is also a skilled web designer and has been an invaluable source of knowledge to the Martinet Society in the development of the new site.
